Some Assembly Required

A new year encourages promises for change. But a promise requires action and action requires a plan. To realize your goals for 2023 and beyond take a good look at the plan and put it into action. It’s not always an out of box solution. In most cases, some assembly is required.

Step 1- Acknowledge where things are.

Avoidance is not a strategy to accomplish goals.

Losing weight is probably the most common new year’s resolutions out there. It makes sense. The holidays are over. The pies and cookies are all gone. It’s not too early to think about upcoming summer vacations and the wardrobe and the scale seems unfriendly or broken, either of which justifies a higher weight, but maybe not how clothes have shrunk just a bit.

I sympathize with the weight challenge. I have put on pounds and took them off only to rediscover them months later. It’s easy to gain weight and difficult to lose and rarely works with out a good plan.

Working in compliance service presents many challenges. The balance is to provide solid customer service while seeing improvement in collections. That doesn’t happen automatically and requires examining your current program to see what works and what doesn’t.

Step 2-Refine your plan

Process changes, technology changes, even people change. It’s important to refine your compliance plan to meet current demands while achieving performance goals. Not all things can improve at once, nor should they. Take a good look at the most important priority to change with the resources you have in place and commit to focusing on improvement.

Step 3- Jump in

A good plan won’t work without action. In the planning process make sure you have the right staffing resources and have properly communicated to your compliance team and your court community. Then JUMP IN!

Step 4- Measure Progress

Once you’ve identified where you want to go with your program it’s important to frequently review progress. In compliance that begins with collections performance. For a compliance program you have to look deeper on the work coming in through payment plans and with what’s happening in regular contributions, notification responses, and defaults. With these values in hand you can make adjustments as needed to reach your compliance target.

Step 5- Consider a Coach

Coaching assistance provides program ideas and educational content to lead your team towards reaching goals and improving performance. At CIS, we are dedicated to consulting and education of best practices in compliance service.
